The European Union (EU) has adopted measures to better protect and enforce intellectual property rights (IPR), a statement released on the official site of the EU said on Tuesday. The EU Action Plan sets out a number of actions to focus the EU's IPR enforcement policy on commercial-scale infringements, including engaging in a dialogue with stakeholders, promoting due-diligence among all actors involved in the production, improving cooperation between member states. The Strategy, based on an international approach, presents ways to improve the European Commission's current means of action to promote enhanced IPR standards in third countries, such as by continuing multilateral efforts, working with partner countries, providing and promoting awareness of appropriate IP-related technical assistance programs to third countries. The actions from the two plans would be launched and carried out in 2014 and 2015. The European Commission would monitor the delivery of these initiatives, and invites the European Parliament, the Council, member states, the European Economic and Social Committee and other stakeholders to contribute to the work. Concerning whether further, potentially legislative, measures are necessary, the European Commission said it would consider at a later stage. Source:Xinhua
