World Intellectual Property Report 2015: Breakthrough Innovation and Economic Growth

Today, WIPO released its World Intellectual Property Report 2015, focused on the theme ofBreakthrough Innovation and Economic Growth.

Throughout history, innovation has been a key driver of economic growth. It has transformed the largely agrarian economies of three centuries ago into the industry- and services-based economies of today. This transformation, which has touched almost every aspect of human activity, was brought about through waves of breakthroughs in technology.

The report analyzes three historical breakthrough innovations – airplanes, antibiotics and semiconductors – and three current areas of innovation with breakthrough potential: 3D printing, nanotechnology and robotics.

It presents an original mapping of patents to fields of innovation, which – among many other findings – shows that France, Germany, Japan, the Republic of Korea, the United Kingdom, and the United States accounted for 75 percent or more of patent filings in the areas of 3D printing, nanotechnology and robotics, as summarized in the Top 20 origins in first patent filings, 1995-2001 and 2005-2011:

The report also considers the future prospects for innovation-driven growth, reviewing the various arguments that suggest either a more optimistic or a more pessimistic outlook. This topic was also at the center of the panel discussion during today’s launch of the report.

    Oh no,看到满篇英文我的第一反应是头大。词汇量捉急的我只有静心花时间拿着字典看英语文章的时候,才能感受到一点“翻译”的乐趣,是的,对我来说,看英语文章基本上是在做翻译
