In accordancewith one embodiment, a method is provided for managing an electricalpower distribution system for a healthcare facilityhaving electrical loads that include critical loads requiring highly reliablepower delivery, power monitoring and interruption devices in the powerdistribution system, a main utility power source for supplying power to theloads via the power distribution system, a controller receiving signals fromthe devices in the power distribution system, and a communications networkcoupled to the controller and the devices in the power distribution system. Thecontroller receives, over the communications network, information regarding thedelivery of power to the loads from the main utility source, the informationincluding the occurrence of trip conditions that interrupt the delivery ofpower to identified loads.  The controlleralso transmits, over the communications network, an alarm when a trip conditionoccurs so that action can be taken to resume the delivery of power to loads towhich power delivery has been interrupted; stores and periodically evaluatesinformation regarding the occurrences of trip conditions and uses of thealternate power source by load; and transmits, over the communications network,an alert when the evaluation identifies a performance change for any load.
